Events
The Spring Festival or Chinese New Year Day is the biggest event in
Shanghai's calendar. Visit the Longhua Temple which has large celebrations
with dragon and lion dances if you attend to go there during the time. A
lovely time to visit with people carrying colored paper lanterns is on the
Lantern Festival on February. A Temple Fair is held at Langhua Temple on
the third day of the third lunar month which is around April.
The Shanghai International Tea Culture Festival is usually at the end of
April. At the same month, there is also Tomb Sweeping Day which is a day
of worshipping ancestors in which people visit the graves of their departed
relatives and often burn ghost money to them for use in the afterworld as
believed.
On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (June), the Dragon Boat Festival
commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a third-century-BC poet-statesman who drowned
himself to protest against the corrupt government. The Shanghai Beer
Festival comes into town around the end of July. The Moon Festival or the
Mid-Autumn Festival takes place in September on the 15th day of the 8th
moon. That's the time for you to eat the tasty moon cakes! The Shanghai Tourism
Festival occurs in late September and offers a wide variety of cultural programs
while in November and early December, there's an annual International Arts
Festival shown.

Entertainment
Shanghai has something for everyone - rock, hip-hop, techno, salsa, and early
morning waltzes in the People's Square. Shanghai's night is just
comparable to a night out in Hong Kong or Taipei.
A lot of bars and clubs are here to be chosen. You can check out the
Shanghai entertainment magazines for guidance. In discos, Shanghai also
pulls in some top-notch DJs from abroad and there are a lot of dance
venues.
For cinemas in Shanghai, foreign movies are generally dubbed into Chinese and
Chinese movies very rarely have English subtitles but there are exceptions at
the multiplexes, such as Golden Cinema Haixing and Studio City. Movies are
also shown in many bars.
Acrobatics
Chinese acrobatic shows are among the best in the world, Shanghai is a great
place to see such performances. The acrobatic performers were trained
strictly and professionally the basic skills starting from the early age of six
or seven years old with most of them have a minimum of twenty years experiences
on show. You can visit Shanghai Centre or Lyceum Theatre for the amazing
shows.
